Strive Counselling is currently offering virtual (phone/video) appointments, and limited in-person appointments for some counsellors. When attending a virtual session, please ensure that you are in a safe and private space, with ample reception and a stable internet connection. Video sessions are conducted over Zoom, which your counsellor will send you a link before your appointment. For in-person sessions, you must first receive confirmation from your counsellor to ensure office space availability.

NOTE: Strive Counselling does not do direct billing for insurance coverage or extended health benefits. This means that clients are responsible for covering the cost of the session initially, and will be provided with the proper documentation for reimbursement after receipt of payment for the session.

EAP Counselling Sessions

Employment Assistance Programs (EAPs) are third-party services offered through various organizations (such as schools) and companies for clients to access free short-term counselling. HumanaCare, Aspiria, Optima, Empower Me, and FNHA are examples of such programs. Book one of the following sessions only if you fall under one of these EAPs.

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based intervention that helps to reprocess specific stressful and traumatic memories using a method called bilateral stimulation. Successful reprocessing can resolve the maladaptive ways in which these memories show up in our present life, and can allow us to move forward in a meaningful and healthy manner.

INTERN Counselling session

Working with an intern counsellor is ideal for those who are looking into a budget-friendly option for therapy. Interns are ethically-trained practitioners who are mentored under the watchful supervision of the Clinical Director. While this is a learning experience for all, it can lead to profound and meaningful change.

Sports Psychology and Mental Performance

A Mental Performance Coach / Consultant (MPC) is a practitioner who specializes in helping high-level performers - such as professional athletes - achieve their desired performance outcomes. Some common issues include dealing with pressure, performative anxiety, focus and attention, motivation, and identity.

Subsidized Sessions

Subsidized counselling (i.e., lower cost, or sliding scale) is typically reserved for those who are in challenging financial situations. Some examples may include students who do not have benefits or employment, or for those who have no employment and no coverage for their sessions. Please do not hesitate to connect with a counsellor on our team to see whether you meet the criteria

Instead of asking “What’s wrong with me?”, in our sessions, we do our best to build an understanding toward the questions “What has happened to me?” or “What is happening to me that my body / brain are responding in this manner to help me survive and what can I learn to better cope and manage?” I work with individuals, couples, and families who seek to change unhelpful and entrenched behavioural, emotional, and thought patterns, while gaining new insight and perspective into their lived experiences and relationships.

I recognize that life is hard - pain and distress are inevitable. Thus, my practice as a counsellor is framed by a trauma-aware lens. The work that I do with people is to support them with acceptance and staying committed to navigating whatever life circumstances we might find ourselves in.

In our sessions, you can expect to find a non-judgemental space to share your story, deepen your growth, or find a starting point to create meaningful change in your life.

HELLO! I’m Sherina (she/her); With almost 15 years of experience in the education field, spanning across the K-12 system, adult education, and assisting newcomers to Canada, I have developed a diverse and well-rounded background. Prior to my career in education, I had the incredible opportunity to work in the airline industry, allowing me to embark on numerous adventures and explore different corners of the world. Amongst the cherished memories I’ve collected, Bali stands out as one of the most captivating places I have ever visited. As a counsellor, my approach is rooted in compassion and cultural awareness. I firmly believe in the power of understanding and embracing individual narratives. By adopting a culturally cognizant perspective, I strive to create a safe space for my clients to express their thoughts, emotions, and experiences freely. It is through the sharing of these stories that empathy is built, leading to a deeper understanding of oneself and others. Together, we can explore the unique challenges and triumphs that shape each individual’s journey. Growing up in Canada as the daughter of first-generation immigrants from Fiji, I bring a unique cultural perspective to my work. As an Indo-Canadian of Fijian descent, I draw inspiration from my Eastern cultural roots and the guiding principle of Talanoa, commonly used in Fiji and throughout the South Pacific. Talanoa embodies an inclusive, participatory, and transparent dialogue to share stories, foster empathy, and make informed decisions for the greater good. My professional journey has allowed me to cultivate a passion for counselling rooted in compassion, cultural understanding, and the power of storytelling. With an appreciation for diverse experiences and a commitment to fostering growth and healing, I am dedicated to supporting my clients in their quest for self-discovery, resilience, and overall well-being. Beyond my professional life, you often find me at the gym, engaging in weightlifting and exercising to maintain a healthy body and mind. I also enjoy being outside in nature, splitting my time between the mainland and the island, and enjoying the serenity of the outdoors with my partner.
